Fruit Platter

How lucky are we.... fruit platter every day for breakfast!

The Best School Tour....Ever!

Yesterday we visited Florence Court House in Co Fermanagh. Not for us the life of a Lord or Lady.... we were to be scullery maids for the day! After putting on our costumes it was down to the basement where we had to work in the kitchen, organise the laundry and clean the servants dining room. Afterwards we got to see what school was like long ago...Thank goodness our teacher is much nicer! We visited the magnificent walled gardens and had lots of fun in the playground.

We were tired but happy on the journey home. Definitely the best school tour....ever!

How can we keep teacher's tea hot?

Mrs Clarke came to us with a problem. Her tea was always cold! So we devised an experiment to find out which material best insulates her mug. Most of us thought that cotton wool would work the best but we were surprised to find that putting a lid on the mug was actually the best insulator!
Now Mrs Clarke can enjoy a nice hot mug of tea after yard duty.

As part of our history curriculum we went on a
walking history tour of Cavan.
We Identified key landmarks and features in our town
and compared how they look now with how they looked in the past.
We examined the wonderful photo exhibition at the post office
which clearly shows the continuity and change of our street scenes
now and then.
The old St Clare's school building

We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion and feel more part of our community now.

Seó Faisin

Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl agus bhí Seó Faisin againn i rang a dó. Bhíomar ag foghlaim faoi Éadaí agus rinneamar Seó Faisin. Bhíomar sa halla agus thainig rang a dó, a trí agus a ceathair go dtí an seó. Bhi an spraoí againn!

We really enjoyed learning a new musical instrument - The Tin Whistle.
Thanks to Padraig, Mrs Clarke and our parents for their patience - especially in the early days when we weren't very good!

Anne Frank

In January, we learned about the life of Anne Frank. We decided to write about her life and spend our computer time practicing our typing and ICT skills. Here us a sample of our work.

Happy Mother's Day!

The girls worked very hard creating their 3d flowers and vases. We thought of lots of adjectives to describe our mums and made cards for them. We hope you liked them!

Pass a story

We are practicing our storytelling skills at school this term. Here we are using our story cards to tell some very interesting tales. Every story should have a clear beginning, middle and end. We are practicing using sizzling starter sentences and lots of connecting words and adjectives. It's lots of fun!

Weather instruments

We learned all about weather recording instruments at school this week. We know about anemometers, barometers, rain gauges, wind socks and wind vanes. We made a simple wind sock using recycled plastic. We thought they looked like jellyfish!

Love is in the air..

Today we celebrate Valentine's day and Ash Wednesday. We made heart shaped sun catchers and beaded hearts. We also spoke to our parents and our teacher about our Lenten promises. See you all after mid term break!

Idioms

We came across an interesting idiom today. We love learning about new words and phrases. We were talking about the idiom ' to see eye to eye with someone'. It's in one of our readers. We know what this means now so why not ask us about it? Sometimes we don't see eye to eye with our friends but we try.

Day 2: 10 @ 10

Today we took a trip around the world for our 10 at 10 challenge. Here you see us flying 5o a new destination. We travelled to India and Australia before coming home. It's lots of fun using your imagination!

Sleeping Beauty

What a performance! We were treated to a wonderful performance of Sleeping Beauty at school today. It was magical! St. Clare's really is the best 👍

Dictionary Detectives!

The girls are looking up words in the dictionary. It's a good idea to look up words you don't know in the dictionary if you come across some in your reading. It is also useful to check your spellings. Go on...be a dictionary detective!
