It's Christmas!!

School's out for Christmas!
We had a visitor called Geronimo who kept a good eye on us over the weeks (see if you can spot him in our Christmas tree!).

The girls also worked very hard for our second class assembly where we talked about the advent wreath, the candles and their symbolism. They spoke and sang excellently and should be very proud of themselves!

Merry Christmas and enjoy the break!

Bottle Belly Snowmen

Last week we created Bottle Belly Snowmen using plastic bottles, cotton buds, pipe cleaners and socks! Thanks to parents for sending in socks and bottles. The children brought some very original ideas to their snowmen and they look fantastic!

Volcanoes

Over the past three weeks, we have constructed and painted volcanoes, as well as make them erupt!

Firstly we created our volcanoes by wrapping newspaper around plastic bottles to form a conical shape.

Next we papier-mâchéd our volcanoes in preparation for painting it.

Next we painted our volcanoes!

Finally we made our volcanoes erupt!! Firstly we put some washing up liquid and baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) into the bottle. To create the reaction, we mixed in some vinegar. See what happened below!

Play: A Tale of Two Storeys

On Thursday we took a trip down to the Town Hall to see the play "A Tale of Two Storeys". Despite the weather, we had a great time!

Nature Trail

On Wednesday we went on a nature trail around the school to find as many natural things as we could! We found loads of things, including leaves, stones, plants, branches, and even a mushroom! When we got back into the classroom, each group put their natural items into groups. See can you guess the groups below!

Our trip to the library!

On Thursday we took a trip down to the library! The children got to read loads of books and listened to the story "The Lonely Beast". Encourage your children to use the library on a regular basis, it's a fantastic place for children to practise & improve their reading and to develop a love for reading!

Relaxation

We had another great start to the week with relaxation! This week we pretended to be animals and trees. Can you guess what we were trying to be in the pictures below?

Clay art

Last week and this week we were also busy creating clay pinch pots and painting them. See below for lots of very concentrated artists!

Story Nanna and Science Week

Phew! What a busy week we've had! On Thursday Story Nanna read the class two lovely stories which taught us about "unfounded fear".

Following that, as last week was Science Week, we were incredibly lucky to have a mobile cinema come to visit us!

A very mad scientist showed us a few very interesting experiments focusing on design and make...

This, believe it or not, is the wing of an airplane flying through the air!!
The plunger acts as the airplane wing, with the kitchen roll acting as the air. We applied a leaf blower as wind and got a great shock!

We also set off a rocket in the cinema. Can't see it? ....It's that yellow balloon! We learned that the direction which the balloon is facing is important for where we want it to go (the Moon). Do you think it'll make it?

We also created heat through mixing water and calcium. Don't believe us? Try it for yourself! (Adults only)

To finish, we watched two other 'scientists' called Wallace and Gromit as they experimented with 'The Wrong Trousers' and went to the moon on a rocket ship!

We all had a fantastic time!

Nabiha caught about to sneeze!!
